Finding machine name (Windows 10)

To find you machine name in windows ten there are 3 main ways of doing it, which are listed below. 

(article assumes you have already signed in)

Through Settings
  1. Open the start menu by selecting the windows logo in the bottom left hand corner
  2. Open settings by selecting the cog above the power icon.
  3. select the "System" option
  4. select the "About" option on the left hand side at the bottom
  5. the name of your device will be shown under "Device Specifications" 

Through Control Panel
  1. on your keyboard, press the "windows" key and the "R" key at the same time. 
  2. in the panel that appears, type "control panel" into the "Open" field
  3. Select "System and Security"
  4. Select "System"
  5. Under "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" you should see your computer name. 

Through the lock screen
  1. lock your device by pressing the "Windows" key and the "L" key at the same time 
  2. press on your space bar
  3. select "Switch user"
  4. press on your space bar
  5. in the "Username" Field, please type ".\" (without ") and your device name should now be displayed under the password field.
