Clean Print Heads - HP 6940 - Windows 7

Problem

Printer cartridges are not printing as they should and you cannot clean the print heads on Windows 7 / 2008

Solution

Press & hold the power button then press the X button twice now press the ↓ twice then let go of all the buttons.  It should go through a cleaning cycle that will take  a couple of minutes.  When the printer stops making noise try printing a page & see if the quality has improved.

The cleaning routine I specified does not result in a test page at the end.  If you can repeat the test and when it is finished then press & hold the power button now press the X button once and then let go of both.  A test page should print out.

At the top of the test page there should be some nozzle test patterns. Magenta, Yellow, Cyan & Black from left to right.  If you can see the patterns examine them and check that they look like complete grids with no spaces.  If there are spaces or if indeed some colours don't print then the relevant cartridges probably need replacing.
